Google’s new Penguin 2.0 update rolled out today, May 22, 2013. The new version of the web-spam fighting algorithm update  supposedly has new improved capabilities to stop link spam.

PenguinThe original Penguin, which was launched April 24, 2012, mostly targeted overoptimized websites that used link spam from lower quality sites, often over-using keywords as the anchor text of the links  to try to improve search engine rankings. It is generally assumed that Penguin 2.0 will be more of the same, but hopefully more effective and more accurate.

In a video about what to expect from Google in the next few months in regard to SEO which was released on March 13th, Google’s webspam czar, Matt Cutts, gave about as much detail as anyone has about the new Penguin 2.0 algorithm update.

And then there is this video where Matt talks about Penguin 2.0 and what is targeted just hours before the rollout:

It will take some time to see what websites are affected by the new Penguin algorithm update and in what way. Be sure to check back here, subscribe to the RSS feed, or circle +Ker Communications on Google+ to find out what we know when we know it.
