Google Plus
Google+ (or “Google Plus”) is the social networking and identity service launched by Google in June of 2011. While it was initially compared to Facebook and Twitter, Google+ is much more than social networking and status updates. Opportunities for collaboration via Circles and Hangouts (video conferencing), along with tight integration across other Google properties like YouTube and even Google’s search engine. Unlike other social networks which are generally accessed through a single website, Google has described Google+ as a “social layer” consisting of not just a single site, but rather an overarching “layer” which covers many of its online properties. Google Plus also acts as the focal point of establishing Authorship on the web – a means of identifying the original source of content and recognizing the trustworthiness of that publisher or author (AuthorRank).
