Internet Marketing
We sometimes use the phrase “internet marketing” as sort of a generic term for what we do. This includes SEO, social media, content development, and inbound marketing (which is all of the above combined). Internet marketing can also include paid advertising (PPC) like Google’s Adwords. We don’t really like the term internet marketing since it, like SEO, has been hijacked by people who don’t really understand the internet and know very little about marketing.
“Internet Marketing” now carries a stigma associated with get-rich-quick schemes and affiliate marketers who don’t care about quality, the public’s perception of your brand, or long term business goals. This may be just being too picky about semantics, but people who label themselves as an “internet marketer” tend to be the type who read an eBook and now want to sell you one. Kind of like all of those self-proclaimed “entrepreneurs” who run around giving self-promoting interviews even though every single business they have started has failed. But that’s a rant for another time…
