Links to your website from other trustworthy and respected websites are still a big part of how Google and other search engines determine how your site will rank. “Link Building” refers to the practice of acquiring “backlinks” to a website for SEO purposes.

The official word from Google is that you should not be “building” links by creating them yourself on sites you own, or by compensating someone else to place links on their website. Links to your website are supposed to be “earned” based on the merits of the content, the site, or your business.
