Mobile Ready Website DesignGoogle says, “build websites for people not search engines”, and so do we. Apparently Google thinks some websites need a little nudge in the direction of being made for people who use phones to search the internet.

If mobile traffic from Google search is important to your business, you are going to need a website that looks good and works well on the small screens of iPhones, Androids and other mobile phones. A versatile responsive website design is no longer an option, it is a requirement. On April 21st, 2015, Google is releasing a mobile-friendly update to show sites that are mobile-friendly higher in the search results than those which are not.
It is not a penalty. Non-mobile sites will still be shown in the search results, but may be shown much lower than they were before the update. That means if your website does not meet the criteria for mobile sites, you could lose significant traffic. For service businesses where customers often just click to call the first number or go to the first site that comes up in the search results, mobile search is crucial.
